The Great Cantors
In the Jewish religion, a
Cantor (also known as a Hazzan or Chazzan) is trained vocally to
lead his or her congregation in songful prayer.
A good number of Cantors
have left a legacy for all of us, their soulful voices recorded
for posterity, singing not only religious songs, but
non-religious ones as well.
The "Golden Age" of
Cantors came about in the interwar period, i.e. between World
Wars I and II.
Within this room you will
see, read and hear about some of the more well-known Cantors.
